Our first experiment for Science Week 2016 was to try to figure out a way to keep Humpty Dumpty safe if he fell off the wall. Aoife prepared a family of Humpties and each of them tried falling onto a different material.
The results of our experiment were that the cushion saved Humpty Dumpty. The foam mat did save him, but then Humpty bounced off the mat and cracked on the floor. He was not smashed - he just had a sore head!
Yi Ming had the clever idea that we should try using a shopping bag to break the egg's fall, preventing it from hitting the floor at all. Well done Yi Ming - he managed to keep Humpty safe!
Since we had managed to save three eggs from being smashed, we had time to try one more idea. We used Dawid's school bag (covered in a plastic bag so it wouldn't get covered in egg!) as a cushion to break Humpty's fall. Just like had happened with the foam mat, the egg landed softly on the bag but then bounced on to the floor. Aoife thought she heard a crack but Humpty was happily unscathed!
Well done Senior Infants - Humpty lives to fall another day!
