This month we have been learning about Judaism as par of our Learn Together curriculum. We learned about the origins of the religion, some of the important people in the Jewish faith, the holidays Jewish people celebrate and many of the important items and symbols associated with Judaism. We then took a trip to a Synagogue to see and experience all the things we had been learning about. It was a fantastic trip which we all really enjoyed.
During February, we celebrated friendship week at school. Throughout the week we did lots of fun activities and discussed what it means to be a good friend. As well as writing friendship poems and creating friendship themed art, we also got to visit the Friendship cafe with Orla's class and Eldon's class. In the cafe, we were treated to delicious hot chocolate and got to spend time chatting and reading with our friends.
This week is STEM week in school where we are celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Yesterday, we got to have a go at the school's brand new laptops! We learned how to paint and type on the laptops.
Today, fourth class came to visit our classroom and taught us how to play a brilliant maths game! We are looking forward to the rest of the week!
,Last Wednesday first class went on a brilliant class trip to a Gurdwara which is a Sikh place of worship.
After first break, we all got on a double-decker bus which took us to the Gurdwara. When we arrived everybody took off their shoes and put a scarf on before entering the Gurdwara as a sign of respect for the special place. Inside, everybody sat on the carpet. We learned that Sikh's believe that it is importat that everybody sits on the ground in the Gurdwara to show that everybody is equal.
Then the people from the Gurdwara explained some more Sikh beliefs. We learned about the 5Ks which are 5 special items that Sikhs' wear. They are the Kesh (hair), Kanga (comb), Kara (steel bracelet), Kachera (special underwear) and Kirpan (dagger).
Afterwards, we were brought into the langar which is a special kitchen in the Gurdwara. We were invited to sit down and the people brought us food to eat. They explained that all visitors to the Gurdwara are invited to eat and share food.
It was a fantastic learning experience for first class and we had a brilliant day!
At the end of last term, we had a fantastic time celebrating healthy living week. During the week we learned different ways to make sure that we can keep our minds and body healthy. We made delicious and healthy foods to eat including hummus, a berry smoothie and fruit bowls. We also wrote recipes, learned about growth mindset and about relaxation. What a brilliant week!
We have been very busy in our classroom over the last few weeks in 1st class. Our theme this month is "Myself" so we have been learning lots about each other. We created self-portraits, name labels and made timelines about ourselves. Have a look at our fantastic portraits!
