This month we are learning all about division. We have talked about the different meanings of the operation to divide - divide, group, share equally, repeated subtraction, groups of, reverse multiplication and share between.
Here are some pictures of us using Play Doh to learn about and understand fractions. Fractions are part of our every day life - every time you make a sandwich and cut it in two you are halving it. If you have a pizza or cake and share it between 8 people everyone gets 1/8th. A bar of Dairy Milk chocolate is divided into 8 equal parts. A football match has two equal halves of time. Time can be broken down in to 1/4 past, 1/2 past and 1/4 to the hour.
This week we have been learning more about 'Lines and Angles'. We can now identify - horizontal, vertical and parallel lines. We also focused on right angles. We made shapes, houses, buildings and all sort of things using lollipop sticks.
We put little dots to identify the right angels of our lollipop creations!
This week in maths we are learning all about directions. Today our goal was to use as many direction or "where" words as we could. We built miniature obstacle courses for our toys and cars and wrote direction for our partners to follow the course. It was great fun!
This week is STEM week in school where we are celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Yesterday, we got to have a go at the school's brand new laptops! We learned how to paint and type on the laptops.
Today, fourth class came to visit our classroom and taught us how to play a brilliant maths game! We are looking forward to the rest of the week!
We are having great fun in our Maths lessons at the moment. Last week we learned all about money and this week we are learning about patterns. Check out our peg boards!
