This month we were exploring the theme of space. We setup a space rocket in our classroom. We had lots of fun shooting into space and having lots of adventures.
This month we have been looking at the planets. We each made our own planet. We covered a balloon with paper maché and let it dry. Then we painted it. Afterwards we hung the planets from the classroom ceiling and made a model of our solar system. The sun is at the centre. Earth is the third planet from the sun.
This week we learned about the Hindu religion, We were able to look at the things that are used in Hindu ceremonies. Dr, Kumar visited us and gave us a talk about the Hindu religion.
This week in Science we were investigating hot and cold. We used the thermometer to take the temperature of water. We then setup an experiment to see which containers held heat the best. Afterwards we worked in groups to see if we could make the containers hold heat better. Then we looked at the different designs to see which one worked the best.
We planted a variety of vegetables this year, carrots, lettuce and turnips. We first had them growing in our classroom, then we had them outdoors still in their pots hardening, before finally planting them outside in our school garden. We had to start over again after the snails ate our first lot of plants. We also looked at the conditions that plants need to grow. We set up an experiment eliminating various elements such as water, warmth, sunshine, soil from the seeds and observing how they developed.
