March Home Learning Plans
Hi everyone! We are missing you all and can't wait to see you soon.
Until school is open again, we will be updating this page at the start of each week with your new Home Learning tasks. We will be assigning four areas that we would like you to complete by the end of the week. The activities we suggested for the first two weeks can be found on this page also.
You can use the submission forms below or use the Submit Home Learning tab above, to send some of your work to your teacher. We would like to see one piece of work from every child. During the week, your teacher will give you feedback on this. We will also be suggesting some additional activities that you can complete if you would like.
For extra work and bonus activities to try, check out this page on our website.
Click here to see a message from your key support teacher Sinead.
Remember to have a look at the photos and reports that have already come in for Aisling's class and Sarah's class too!

Monday March 31st
1. Tricky words: write out 5 of the tricky words, place them face down on a table, turn over the tricky word, read it, use it in a sentence and decorate the word.
2. Maths: We will focus on combining numbers up to 10. Scroll down on the web page to see pictures with groups of unifix cubes. For each picture, draw the number sentence (sum) to match each picture. Do the first six today.
3. English: Read/Watch the Read-Aloud of the story
What Pet Should I Get? by Dr Suess. Guidance for parents:
-Before beginning to read, allow the child to look at the cover of the book and predict what the story might be about.
-While reading: Encourage your child to make connections between the story and their own life. Invite them to think about any pets they have, or friends and family have!
-Ask your child what pet they think the characters in the story should get and why.
-After reading, ask your child some comprehension-based questions like:
Can you name one of the characters in this story?
What pet did the children see first/last?
What time did the children need to be home by?
4. SPHE: Introduce your child to the family and friends picture below. Then complete the activity on the next image page 6. The page does not need to be printed, simply ask your child to point to the matching pairs and name the objects.
If you wish to see a copy of the full document you can find it here and then click on “Play and Learn: Being Online Resource".
BONUS: If you are looking for a bonus activity today, you could try something from the Gaeilge list such as Sceal an Lae!

Plants are very clever and they can make their own food but they need soil, light and water to do it!
Here is a short video to watch about how seeds grow.
How does a seed become a plant? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkFPyue5X3Q

Thursday 2nd of March
Tricky Words - Read a story together, (any story book you have at home) and do a tricky word search. Keep a list of tricky words handy so you know what words to look out for. For a challenge ask your child to write the tricky words in a list before you start. You can count or tally up how many times you see each word in your story. The objective is for the child to notice the word visually and orally and be able to identify it on the page as they read/or as the book is read to them. If a child hear you read the word I, tell them to say the Tricky Word that they hear, and then you can ask them to search for that word on the page. Make it fun! Which word came up the most frequently?
Maths - Estimate and Measure. Explore the length of different objects in the environment. Learn to measure using non-standard measuring tools.
Link to video, showing measuring with hand spans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iefx-bE_xKI
Complete the table below or use it as a guide. First choose your measuring tool. It is best to use handspans to measure large items such as a table. Use a crayon or your thumb to measure shorter objects. Estimate how many handspans/crayons/thumbs long you think an object will be. Write down your estimate. Then measure the object and check how close your estimate was. It is ok if your estimate was not right. It was just a guess. We measure to find out the real answer! You can measure with all three if you want a challenge! Please see table below for suggestions, or think of your own things to measure!
English/Drama/Writing Here is a very short drama activity to start off the writing with some fun! It is a copying game where you copy words and tone and actions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vIua3fWwRI
We are going to write “The Story of a Seed” over the next two days. Some children may be able to write this as a dictation exercise. You can write for your child to copy, or or show them the example photos and allow them to work independently. The aim is to take pride in writing a story. Each sentence will be one page of the story and the children can draw their own illustrations. See photos below for ideas.
If you want an extra challenge... For a quick and easy way to make a mini-book with one A4 page and a scissors, see here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHa6kR2SZok A3 paper will make a larger sized book with the same technique. You can also write your story in a copy or alternatively make a comic strip. Make it fun and enjoyable!
Today’s writing sentences are:
Science - Take a walk or go to your garden and make a journey stick. You will need to bring blue tack, string or sticky tape with you. Find a stick at the start of your journey. As you walk, listen to the sounds you can hear, are they living/natural sounds or man-made sounds? How can you tell? Notice the weather, and chat about this as a family while you walk or explore. Can you smell anything? Look around at all the living things on your journey! Imagine you are an explorer on an adventure and you are trying to discover something you didn’t already know. Find and collect 5 interesting things along your adventure walk. You can make up a story for each object if you like. Use your imagination! It doesn’t have to be true! (e.g. You might find a triangle-shaped stone but pretend it is a dinosaur tooth!) When you get home you can use your journey stick to tell your story to someone else. Maybe video call a grandparent, aunt or uncle and show them your journey stick and tell to them what you discovered on your adventure!
