We played maths games and used maths in fun ways.
The highlight of maths week was when some of our parents got to come into our classroom and play maths games with us.
We made a graph with our shoes.
We put all the shoes with Velcro in a line and counted them. We then put all the shoes with Velcro and laces in a line and counted them. Jenna and Ella's shoes were the only ones with neither laces or Velcro so they went in another line.
This activity helped us understand the terms more/less, how many more, the same as, extra etc.
We then made lines of colour........possibilities are endless.
- Start the game with a small structure made of wooden blocks.
- The first person rolls the dice that has +/- signs beside the numbers. If they get a + they will add that number of blocks. If they get a - they will take that many away.
- This game really helps children understand the concept of adding and subtracting.
- It also helps develop children's understanding of the mathematical signs =/+
Have a lovely weekend everybody (why not try some of these games at home). See you on Monday!
