During the month of November we were learning about length in Maths. We spent some of our maths lessons measuring different items in our classroom using cubes. First we had to estimate how many cubes we would need and then we took turns measuring. We also had a look at the metre stick and we talked about items which are longer and shorter than the metre stick. We enjoy working together in first class!
On Tuesday afternoon third class came to visit us and we had some buddy reading. First class chose books from our library and the boys and girls from third class read them. It was a lovely enjoyable afternoon and we hope to do some buddy reading very soon with our neighbours across the hall.
Take a look at the pictures of the new wing. Friday the 20th was a busy day. Firstly we went on a tour of the new wing after first yard. We visited Eldon and Aoife's new classrooms, the library, the PE hall, the meeting room and the GP area. Then in the afternoon we had a fantastic time at the Superhero themed disco in our new PE hall. Bella'a aunt who is a professional dance teacher lead the disco and really got us all moving. It was a fantastic celebration.
On the 20th of November we had a very special occasion in our school. The new wing of our school was officially opened. We enjoyed watching the live stream of the grand opening from the comfort of our classroom. We were also joined by Jenna's senior infants and Mary's third class to watch the special event!
This month we had a special visit form Rebecca who is a student teacher. She visited us for a week and helped us out. You can see her here enjoying a circle time with us. Rebecca has now returned to college and will visit us again during May and June. We are looking forward to her return. We also dressed up as superheroes this month. We spent a lot of time chatting about the different types of superheroes that we have in our lives!!
We are very fortunate to have a talented musician in our class. Mila brought in her violin and her guitar this month. She played twinkle twinkle on her violin and she played jingle bells on the guitar. Mila also visited all classes in the school and played her violin for them. Mila is an excellent musician and we are looking forward to some more musical performances next term!!
Fatima, Noon and Ahmed demonstrated how they use some of these traditional Islamic items. They showed us a prayer mat, prayer beads and traditional children's clothing. Fatima's family have now kindly donated these items to our school and they will form part of our belief systems resources which can be used every year by all classes when teaching about the world religion Islam. Thank you!!
