On the first day back to school, the children in attendance were full of joy and zest wishing each other a happy new year! A brand new year, 2022. What would it be like? What were our wishes and hopes for this year? It was very exciting. We learnt about what 'new year resolutions' were and we spoke about how they were like goals for the new year. We thought of daring and fun goals for ourselves. Lisa is going to try and drink more water at school this year. If you see her remind her! Take a look at a few resolutions from Second Class below. We thought of new goals for ourselves, home and school. We need to work hard now to try and keep them! We have been learning about fractions in Second Class. We LOVE maths and we really loved making our own unique fraction pizzas! We know that fractions are parts of a whole.
Some of us did whole pizzas. Some of us did pizzas split equally into two equal parts (halves). Some of us did pizzas split equally into four equal parts or quarters. And some of us did pizzas split in 8 equal parts or eights. Take a look below and see if you fancy a slice or two! c",) Challenge: See if you can make your own fractions at home? Can you spot any around your home? Each pod worked collaboratively to design, create and decorate their own Chinese dragon. It was by no means easy and the children worked hard listening and compromising on different ideas, solving problems and supporting and encouraging one another through the project. On the last day of term, the children showed off their creations in a Chinese New Year parade with Niamh's class. We sang the song 'Chinese Dragon' and we had a lot of fun! Take a look at some photos below: Before the winter holidays, the children learnt all about the country China. The children loved using the class globe to find where China was and pinpointing it on their world maps. We went on a fantastic adventure to the Great Wall of China, to the forests to see the giant panda eating tonnes of bamboo, to the base of the very tall Mount Everest and to the wonderful capital city of Beiijing! We learnt about school life in China, typical yummy Chinese food and all about the Chinese new year. Take a look at some our projects below. |
