The Lego after-school club came to visit our class this week and gave us a fun demonstration. We got to build a motorised Lego lorry in pairs and it was so enjoyable! Thank you Lego team!

Hello everybody! We have had a super busy and fun-filled few months. Keep scrolling to have a look at all of the activities and lessons that we have been up to! New Year Goals!Happy New Year everybody! We loved chatting about the new year and coming up with new goals for 2023. We used our chromebooks to create Jamboard presentations of our goals. Birds! We have been learning about trees and birds in our SESE lessons and after looking at some nests and pictures of birds we were inspired to do some art. We drew some realistic robins and shaded them using colouring pencils. We also painted some wonderful bird silhouettes at sunrise. Maths! We've done loads of maths! Check out some highlights below. The Stone Age!We loved learning about the Stone Age! We worked together on projects and created some amazing Cave Art by staining paper and using pastels underneath our table caves! The Winter Concert! We were so proud of ourselves during our Winter Concert. We worked hard for weeks preparing a song, poem and play as well as some props. It was a great performance! GAA Coaching! We are so lucky to have a GAA coach visit our school every Friday and take us for GAA lessons. We are learning skills for Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. It is great fun. Science Investigations! We learned about sound and vibrations. We made our own drum to observe sound vibrations in action. Buddy Reading! We have been working with Laura's Senior Infant class and love it! We each have a buddy who we visit and read to. It is great fun and is a chance for us to show off our great reading skills. Biodiversity and Green Schools! We have been learning all about biodiversity. Judith from Biodiversity Ireland came to visit us and talked to us about biodiversity and how we can help look after our school and planet. She brought us outside and showed us some biodiversity in our school garden. After that, we were inspired to help out with our Green School ambitions and went outside to do some litter picking. Halloween! We enjoyed learning about the festival of Halloween during history and learn together. We learned about the origins of Halloween and how it is similar to other festivals. We were inspired to do some art as well! We have had a fun and busy month! Have a look at what we have been up to. :-) Gratitude LettersWe have been learning about the attitude of gratitude in our SPHE lessons. We decided to write and deliver letters to people that we love to say thank you for all of the wonderful things that they do for us. It felt great to thank people! Garda VisitWe had a visit this week from Garda Declan. Garda Declan talked to us about how we can stay safe and have lots of fun over Halloween. He talked to us about fire and road safety. Thank you Garda Declan! Buddy WorkWe have been helping each other with our lessons and doing lots of buddy work. We have been having paired conversations to help us practise our new Gaeilge words and phrases and we have been doing buddy reading as well. Teamwork is super! Optical Illusion ArtWe combined our maths lessons with our art lessons and experimented with different ways to make straight lines look curvy. Have a look at our cool projects! Rainbow ArtWe had fun with rainbow colours. We learned about liquids in science and applied our knowledge to our work. We created a rainbow rain scene by adding water to the paint to make it more liquid and then we let it drip. We also created rainbow portraits by adding water to tissue paper and letting it dye the paper. Student Council ElectionsWe had an exciting week last week in our student election vote. We had eleven candidates who went forward for the election. They made fantastic posters and gave super speeches! It was a great competition. Congratulations to Oliver who will be our new student council representative this year and thank you Gaja for all of your hard work up on the council last year! We have been having a busy first couple of weeks. We are settling into our new classroom and into third class really well. Check out some of our back to school activities below. Collaborative ArtWe were inspired by the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his famous painting Concentric Circles. We each painted a section of our own Concentric Circle giant painting which is now displayed outside of our classroom. :-) Our Class ContractWe wrote our own class contract together full of promises that we plan to try and follow for the year so that everybody in our class can learn, feel safe and have fun. Team Games in PEWe have been playing some team games outdoors during our PE lessons! Check out our over and under relay! Paired Work in MathsWe are doing lots of maths. Have a look at our paired place value work. We took it in turns to coach each other. Science and DramaWe are learning about solids, liquids and gases in science at the moment, so we played a drama game to show what we had learnt. We pretended to be the particles in either solids, liquids or gases. Solids have tightly picked particles, liquids have slightly looser ones and the particles in gases float away from each other. See if you can guess which material we are pretending to be from our photos.
