Our Play Rota theme for the month of December is the Doctors' Surgery. We have been learning lots of new vocabulary: stethoscope, otoscope, receptionist, patient, doctor, nurse, appointment, thermometer, medicine, needle, injection.. anything you may find at the doctor. We get a turn once per week to be in the socio-dramatic play are and we have loved it this month - check us out!
In maths, we have been learning about pattern this month. We found lots of patterns in our classroom and around the school. We listened to word patterns, and identified what would come next, and we made our own patterns using lots of various materials. We learned that a pattern can be made using shapes, colours, objects of different sizes and lots more.
We have also been practicing our counting and played some great dice games. We are getting really good at identifying the number on a dice, without having to count each of the spots.
We are also learning how to write our numbers - so far we have learned the numbers 1 and 2. We have rhymes to help us remember the formation:
1: Number one is like a stick, A straight line down that's very quick!
2: For number two go right around, Then make a line across the ground.

We practice our Jolly Phonics every day and sometimes get to play games in smaller groups, along with one of our support teachers. We have a new Phonics table in our classroom also, with lots of fun games to play.
