1st Class had their very own sports day on June 17th. In the morning they took part in 5 stations - speed jump, football shoot, javelin throw, spud and spoon race, and the long jump. In between the breaks they took part in a different set of stations which included an obstacle course, a water race, balancing station, beanbag toss, and sack race. The afternoon finished up with races across the pitch for fun! Making animal masksWhen the children arrived at school, they began making animal masks. They used a range of craft materials including feathers, sequins, pom poms, pipe cleaners, wooden sticks etc. Picnic and Popcorn PartyThe children had a picnic outside on the grass. Later they watched a movie and enjoyed eating fresh popcorn! They ate a surprising amount! They also had a disco in the PE hall but I forgot to take pictures of that...I must have been enjoying myself too much! Wooly Farm - bigger animalsThe Wooly Farm visited us in the afternoon with their gorgeous animal friends. We all enjoyed getting to pet the friendly farm animals. Wooly Farm - smaller animalsThe boys and girls created these beautiful winter landscapes.
First they had to use purple and blue paint to create the winter sky. Next they had to draw and cut trees. Finally they had to stick their trees on the snow to create a silhouette effect Emer's 1st class have been working so hard this year and as a result we have won 4 different certificates for our class! We won a certificate for being the friendliest class, 2 certificates for having the best line and another certificate for having the cleanest classroom. What super kiddos!
We have been learning about autumn in school. We have been noticing all the different changes that happen in the season of autumn such as the leaves changing colour and falling, the animals gathering nuts, the weather getting colder, and the birds migrating. We did a great job making these beautiful autumn trees! First the children had to draw a tree using a pencil, then they coloured it in brown. After that they dipped a cotton bud in paint and dabbed it all around their trees to make the leaves. The boys and girls were given a little piece of this rainbow to colour each. As well as each child colouring a piece, each table also had to work on one piece to colour together. The pieces looked pretty on their own but when we stuck them all together we were absolutely amazed by how beautiful our class rainbow looked! It really shows how we all fit together so colourfully in 1st class :)
We have been getting lots of exercise on the running track on Tuesday's and PE on Thursday's. We have been trying to challenge ourselves while we run and we always come back in with rosy cheeks!
When we exercise outdoors it helps us concentrate extra well when we get back in to our classroom. This year we are going outside at each yard break which means we get to embrace the rainy Irish weather! We get very excited now when it rains!!
We all have wet gear and are getting great practice keeping our extra things tidy and organised. We have even spent some time learning to fold our things. What great life skills! |
